Auction Basics
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BID
Most buyers look at the bid price…
but that’s NOT what you actually pay.
Here are a few of the most common costs that catch people off guard:
• Buyer Fee
This is the auction’s main fee for purchasing the vehicle. It’s based on your final bid amount and can add hundreds or even thousands.
• Internet Fee
If you bid online (which most people do), the auction charges an additional fee just for using the platform.
• Gate Fee
This is a standard charge to release the vehicle from the yard.
A lot of first-time buyers don’t expect this — but it’s always there.
• Storage Fees
If you don’t pick up your vehicle quickly, daily storage fees can start adding up fast.
• Transport Cost
Unless the vehicle is drivable and legal for the road, you’ll need to transport it
(tow truck, trailer, or dolly)
TITLE TYPES (WHY THEY MATTER)
A vehicle's title affects value,insurance, and resale.
(Details inside the full calculator.)
WHY THIS MATTERS
A car that looks like a “deal” at $5,000
can quickly turn into $7,500 + after fees, transport, and repairs.
That’s where most people lose money.
• Estimate total cost (fees + transport)
• Check VIN & vehicle history
